Random Quote of Mine

The other night I was texting with my lovely beautiful wife and she asked me if I was bored. I am currently staying in a room that I would say is heat challenged. So my reply to her was;

“Pretty much!  Shivering in the cold only keeps you entertained for so long”

I was bundled up in warm clothes under the covers in my bed. Got to love the Army. I have had to deal with worse. Sleeping in a tent in Korea in the middle of winter. Being in the middle of the Iraq desert in the middle of winter and growing up in Wisconsin, I have had to deal with cold weather. I’m currently in Louisiana and you would figure it might be a little warmer. NOT! Hope you all have a warm and wonderful day.

Trick or Treat’s Past

casper

I  have always looked forward to Halloween and all that came with it. When I was a kid in elementary school we would have a day when we would dress up in our costumes. We would as a class go from one class to the next showing off our costumes with the other classes. After that we would have a little Halloween party in our classroom and often our teacher would read us a story. In my neighborhood I would get together with all my friends and we would go out trick or treating throughout the our neighborhood, the next one and the one after that. We would literally run from house to house trying to get as much candy as possible. Back then the masks we would wear were nothing like the ones today, you couldn’t see out of them or breath out of them. Then as we would finally get tired we would head to the park that was at the end of the road, right in the middle of our neighborhood and they would have a giant bonfire and they would have hot (always would burn my tongue) chocolate and Tootsie rolls. The candies back then were the small candy bars, the peanut butter tasting (black and orange wrapped) candy, pixie sticks (pure sugar) and lots of gum. Then for the days that followed we would bring our candy to school and trade with our other friends. As I got even older, the nights would last even later for Trick or Treating, if it was a weekend we would always sleep over at my friend’s house, the one were his parents didn’t care how late we were out. We sometimes would be out until midnight. If we saw a house with its lights on we would ring the doorbell. They would usually drop any candy they had left into our bags and shut the light off. We would then go back to my friends house and watch a bunch of slasher movies. In high school Halloween meant it was time to smash pumpkins (don’t judge me..LOL), and we were basically a bunch of juvenile delinquents. Now as I have grown older it was the fun of taking my children out and getting them all dressed up into their cute costumes. Of course some times it wasn’t only the kids getting a treat, one of our neighbors were we use to live would give the parents a beer or a drink. Now we have a house that everyone calls the Jell-O shot house. I always tell my kids that all the Peanut M&M’s are mine and they are the cost of me taking them around the neighborhood. It does seem that more and more this holiday is less community oriented as it was when I was a kid and just a holiday for candy and spending money on outrageous costumes. I mean what kid needs a $100.00 costume. Well I just want to say Happy Halloween to everyone. If you don’t celebrate it that is ok to, but don’t judge me if I do. It is just a day to enjoy being a kid no matter how old you are.

What I’ve Been Up To

IMG_2324.JPGHello all my Blogger friends out there. Just wanted to let you all know what has been going on with myself. Well I’m not sick or anything like that.  I have made that large change in my life. This journey over the past month has taken me to South Carolina and now to Fort Polk in Louisiana for now. Next month my journey will take me even farther away from my family for an extended amount of time. Once I can get myself settled in I will be back amongst you my friends. Please pray for my family during this time we are apart. Thank you for your time and understanding.

Changes

Today marks an end

Having to say goodbye to so many friends

A change in life

Can bring so much strife

Uncertainties abound

Clarity often not found

Praying each day

That God will lead my way

An end to a chapter

One that was full of tears and laughter

A new journey I start

Following the call within my heart

A new road ahead

On wings of an eagle I am led

Hello Out There It’s Me!

Just an update for everyone out there in Bloggerland. I haven’t really had much chance to write much and when I do my brain has been going on overdrive. I am in the midst of a huge change in my life which I am both excited about and a bit scared about. The where I will be going is mostly figured out, just a lot of unknown still ahead. I ask prayer for my way ahead for not only myself, but my family. I won’t say too much about what it is right now, but I will give a hint that the name of my blog is a good give away. Hopefully my brain will settle down and let me get back to writing. I tried the other day and it felt like my head was going to explode. I hope to try to catch up on reading many of your blogs soon. Of course on top of this all I have been working long hours in my current position due to the bad weather that has hampered our state over the past week. I hope for the best for all of you out there. I pray for safety and health for you all. Stay in touch and I hope to reenter this family of bloggers soon.

American Pastime

Here is to an American Pastime, something I use to look forward to as a kid with my friends in my old neighborhood. Sitting around listening to Brewer Games on the Radio.  Here are a few of the ball fields, I would love to go to. Baseball means Summer is here (almost).

Empathetic Heart

girl-690327_960_720

Thoughts of past days run through your mind

Some full of fun and others not so kind

Thinking back on those times bring despair

Makes you wonder why do I care

What makes you this way you ponder so deep

Causing your heart to tear and weep

The person you are is so full of so much love

You find ways to show compassion like our God above

When people are hurting, you feel that too

An empathetic heart reaching out to those sad and blue

So, caring for those who despair

You are a person so full of tenderness, kindness and grace

The reason you feel is because of how much you care

I am so amazed at the beauty inside

A heart and soul so amplified

By the tenderheartedness found in you

*Dedicated to my wife who has the biggest heart full of love that I know. She cares so deeply for people and I am always amazed by you.*

Time

pocket-watch-1637396_960_720

Time is always moving

Something we think we can control

Always believing we have more than we do

When time goes against us

We always say I wish I had more

The real problem is not how much, but how we use it

Loved ones, friends and family

Always finding reasons why we can’t be with them

Always saying I have plenty of time

Then one day that time is done

Loved ones gone, friends go away, family grows older

We always complain I wish I only had more time

Take that time now

Tell your friends, family, children, and loved ones

How much you love them

Take that time and put away your distractions

Go on that trip, play that game or spend that time with them

Before it is too late.

In Remembrance

candle-2038736_960_720

Life so full of hope

A future so bright

So many lives did he touch

Smiles to all he met

Jokes and laughter staples in his life

Surrounded by friends until the end

A young man’s life cut short

We will never know why

God has a plan for all his children

Not only here but in heaven above

He is now an angel looking down

A light for those who knew him

His memory will never fade from our hearts

A young man who resides with God above

A world full of the hearts he touched below

Today we cry

Tomorrow we mourn

Down the road our paths will meet once more

In remembrance of a young man who we knew from a boy, who’s life was tragically cut short.  Rest In Peace…
