They say a journey always starts with a first step
Often when I take that step I trip over my feet
So I fall flat on my face
Instead of feeling sorry for myself what do I do
I pick myself up again and wait for that next journey
Hopefully this time I don’t trip
Wish me luck and pray that I don’t fall and get a fat lip.

It all started with a New Hope
But then the Empire Strikes Back

Before this all happened there was A Phantom Menace
Causing the Attack of the Clones
Giving way to the Return of the Sith
Leaving us now with the Force Awakens
And The Last Jedi
And somewhere in there is a Rogue One

When do you realize it is time to settle
Taking your foot off the peddle
Deciding that it’s time to step back
When you are young you look forward to what comes next
Always pushing yourself to reach a higher level
Moving on from one opportunity to another
When is it time to realize those opportunities are dwindling
Time waits for no man they say
So when will I know that day
Taking that one last attempt
To continue a career that you love
So much says it is time to quit
Enjoy what you have done and stop doing it
Move onto the next stage of your life
Your body is full of aches and pains
Mind not as sharp, but still there most of the time
I am a soldier that is what I have known for over twenty-one years
Not done in my heart or in my head
A few good years left inside this old soul
Proving again to myself of my worth
What happens to old soldiers when it is time to go
As it was once said
Old soldiers never die, they just fade away

Dreaming of a future with you
A time when our days are made for us two
Travelling from place to place
Discovering the beauty of God’s great creation
From the Beaches of the coasts
To the Mountains along the divide
And all the areas in-between
Together we will travel from one destination to the next
Visiting our children and their families
Growing older into our twilight we will be
Experiencing all the sights of created by God’s mighty hand
A future meant just for us two

Today is a new day
Trying to do things a new way
Denying those things I use to enjoy
Things that I would have every day
Causing my waist to expand
Exercise every day to keep it thin was my plan
As I grew older it became a losing cause
Aches and pains compounded my lack of loss
So now I will try a different tact
Wish me luck on my new plan of attack
Today I started a new plan for my life, it is a change in eating habits. It is called the Whole30. Doing this challenge with my wife. You may know her as ~M at https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/ . So wish us luck. It will be a interesting month, but I’m hoping that it goes good and will be something I will take forward with my life.
Foggy thoughts in my mind
Remembrances of times past caught in a bind
Views of past times clouded in my brain
Trying to remember events and friends gone by
Straining to revive the memories I try to bring back
At times words escape my thoughts
Unable to bring them forth to speak them out
So much I am losing as each day passes
Unable to find things in my mind
Maybe it is age as I grow older
Blows to my head in days gone past
Making a scramble of my head at the time
These missing pieces scare me so
Scared of what I’ve let go
Times, memories, people and places
Please Oh Lord, keep my thoughts whole.

Tenderly your words speak to me
Softly I feel the caress of your touch
My craving for you is unceasing
A desire unquenchable, but only by my love

You are my moonlight on the darkest of nights
My brightest color placed in my life by our Father above

Rocky times I have seen in my life
Trials and tribulations I have faced

The enemy puts doubts into my mind
Pushing me deeper into despair
How do I fight such a force?
What do I use to defend myself
Grabbing my shield
Wearing my breastplate

Placing on my helmet
Taking a hold of my sword
I am prepared for battle

Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Well it is that time of year again, the only time I even pay attention to College Basketball. I actually enjoy watching these games. My favorite team I know doesn’t really stand a chance of making it past the first round, so I’m not really invested into following one team. I enjoy the first weekend the most because that is when the little guys often take down the big guys. Every year I put together a bracket for the tournament and usually by the end of the first day it is a total disaster. So I’m at it again this year. Who am I picking it to win it all this year? I must first say sorry to the people who follow this team. I would love to pick my Wisconsin Badgers, but I’m guessing that they will be one and done. So who am I picking, the Kentucky Wildcats. Which probably means they will get upset sometime over this first weekend.
Well if you follow sports or not, this weekend always has a good story about some school that comes out of nowhere. Some of the stories I find interesting; Northwestern – first NCAA Tournament in school history, they have been around for a long time and this will be their first time in the big dance. Northern Kentucky – First year as a Division 1 school and they make it into the big dance. So many different schools, Winthrop University, South Dakota State, North Dakota, University North Carolina Wilmington, St Mary’s, Florida Gulf Coast and so many other schools that no one really hears about except at this time of the year. So who is going to wear Cinderella’s shoe this year? So for you who have made out your brackets good luck? Let me know who you are picking this year.
