#TuesdayTunes – Queensryche “Eyes of a Stranger”

Saw Queensryche back in 1992 at the Cow Palace in San Jose. It was their Operation Mindcrime tour and it was incredible. Geoff Tate has an incredible voice and they are an electric group in concert. I was about 6 feet from the stage and it was a packed house. When I was in Iraq in 2011 they were at my base doing a USO tour and I was excited about maybe getting the chance to see them again. Of course mission came first and I couldn’t go. Enjoy the amazing vocals and power of this song.

Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time

When I thought the world was all mine

So many opportunities in front of me

What would I grow up to be

A doctor, a lawyer, a farmer, a fast-food worker

Off to college I went to find my order

Enjoyed the time I spent at school

Often times getting drunker than a fool

I knew after a while that this was not for me

So I knew then what I would become

For my lifes outcome

The course that I chose as I grew older

Was for me to become a soldier

How Do You Heal a Hurt

patch-2328289_960_720

How do you heal a hurt

A pain that is ever present

Knowing that what causes it will never go away

How do you fix an injury to the soul

A deep scar that is always there

Flaring up when they are least aware

Sometimes a hug or a word are enough of a salve

To put out the fire of that deep painful ache

How do you help the one you love

Whatever the solution I have yet to find

But I will never stop until the end of time

4th of July

america-2148831_960_720

Upon an ideal a nation was formed

A belief in freedom that would be heard round the world

A declaration was made to say we were a free nation

Declaring our independence from masters across the sea

An idea that all men are created equal

Yes we had our times of injustice along the way

Wrongs were made right as time went by

Along the way other nations have risen and fallen

Countries have changed and many have broken apart

We have stayed and grown

A light in the world to so many we have become

An idea created so long ago

A nation was born

On the 4th day of July we celebrate

With flags flying all around

Fireworks blazing across the skies

From sea to shining sea

A remembrance of what America can be

Waiting

underground-1715279_960_720

Upon a dream I wait

Voices in my head drive my doubt

Telling me it will never happen

Why do you believe you deserve this outcome

Trying to push them out

Anxiety takes hold

I try to stay bold

My heart says all will be as willed

Upon peace it shall be filled

Agonizing over the ticking of the clock

Pushing against a giant rock

Knowing that God is at work

Upon his path I shall wait

Not easy to stand still within the storm

Praying that word shall come down soon

Waiting like a cowboy for high noon

30 Years

untitled

Where has the time gone?

The days of innocence past

Worries that once we thought would never pass

From our first day of kindergarten

To the day we went our separate ways

Days of classes, lectures and tests

Weekends of work, fun and play

Cruising in cars to the tunes of our time

The only care we had were what do we do next

Some off to college, some off to work

Some started families and others drifted apart

Thirty years have gone by since we left that life

Those days we spent in a High School daze

Now we have new lives

Families, careers and so much more

Friends who are no longer with us we remember with a smile

Hairlines recede and waistlines expand

Thinking back on days we wanted to pass by

Now we would give anything to find that innocence again

Friendships, relationships, parties and more

Friday night Football, weekends with friends

Tonight we will tell stories of times gone past

Catch up on each other’s lives

Saying how we should stay in touch

But in reality remembering how so much of these times really sucked.
